While the name doesn’t sound very appetizing, it is one of the most delicious sweet snacks I’ve ever tried. It only requires a few ingredients (Chex cereal, peanut butter, chocolate chips, canola oil, and powdered sugar), and it takes no time at all to make. My mom has been making dog bones for as long as I can remember, and she always makes it in the exact same bowl after all these years (I never forget this bowl because it’s extra large and green). Dog bones are easy to make* and a major crowd pleaser. If you are looking for a last minute dessert recipe to whip up for tomorrow, I highly recommend this one.
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope yours are all just perfect. Whether you’re sharing the day with just a few people or a large group, family or friends, enjoy each and every minute. I’m thankful for so much, but at the top of my list would have to be my incredible family, my amazing friends and boyfriend, and each and every one of you. Thank you so much for following the FPTP journey the past many months. It means more to me than you’ll ever know. xo, Julie
*How to make Dog Bones:
1. Pour little less than a full bag of chocolate chips into a dish
2. Lightly coat them in canola oil
3. Melt in the microwave (start with a minute, but do not over-melt)
4. Mix a few large spoonfuls of peanut butter into the melted chocolate and combine together completely
5. Pour Chex into a large bowl
6. Pour chocolate/peanut butter mix on top
7. Stir (VERY) gently so all Chex are coated (VERY gently so the Chex don’t all break apart)
8. Pour enough powdered sugar into the bowl so all the Chex are completely covered. Again, stir VERY gently so they don’t break too much (some broken ones are normal). Keep pouring powdered sugar in until all are coated
9. Transfer into a smaller bowl, leaving behind extra powdered sugar and badly broken pieces in the large bowl
10. Refrigerate until it’s time to eat them
11. Enjoy!
I love this! But they are too dangerous so when I make it I have to give them away!
Done bones… puppy chow….? Who cares what it’s called – it looks AMAZING 🙂

I love this! I’ve always heard it called “Puppy Chow” – but I like “Dog Bones” too. This recipe is great for a little snack at work…the only problem is that everyone else will eat some too!
Isn’t That Charming.
Haha dog bones is such a cute name for thing (I’ve heard puppy chow, too!). All I know is I love these little dessert and I have to make sure I plant myself FAR away from it at parties. Needless to say, I tend to devour the bowl.

So delicious. I’ve heard it called “puppy chow” and “white trash” (err, not so PC), but “dog bones” is a new one for me. I like it!
