A couple questions for you.
Did you know that every 6 seconds a woman in the US is battered?
Did you know that 119 women in Texas died from it last year?
You probably didn’t know either of those things. I sure as hell didn’t. And it’s beyond disappointing and not quite believable.
I know FPTP is typically a pretty uplifting place with mostly happy stories and posts, but I want to take things a bit more seriously today and bring your attention to something very important. Domestic abuse and how serious it is.
A few weeks back, Esther Freedman brought together a variety of Houstonians – bloggers, shop owners, fashion designers, athletes, and more – to be a part of an incredible campaign. Unfortunately, I was out of town the day of the event, but I’m still honored to be apart of it.
During the presentation, everyone learned about domestic abuse and a VERY brave girl spoke about her personal experience and how AVDA (Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse) helped her in such a big way. There was then a photo shoot where each person involved took a photo holding up the hashtag #EndAbuse.
Now, here’s how YOU can help. This coming Wednesday, I, along with everyone involved in this campaign, will be posting a photo of themselves on various social media channels holding up a sign with #EndAbuse on it. YOU can (and should!) do this, too. We want to bring awareness to this subject all over the country and beyond. I hope you’ll take part. Let’s make a difference.
