Introducing: Like Mother, Like Daughter…or Somewhere in Between

Untitled-12

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been extremely close with my mom. Some therapists would say we’re too close (in fact, one has told me that, ha!). Though, I don’t see anything wrong with a mother and daughter being close (most of my girlfriends are just as close with their moms). It’s a bond unlike any other. And while I can’t speak from having my own daughter, I know it’s different than any other relationship in one’s life. It’s a special one, a unique one, and for some, it can even be a challenging one.

In honor of Mother’s Day this weekend, I thought it would be the perfect time to kick off a new series that’s been in the works, called “Like Mother, Like Daughter…or Somewhere in Between.”

As close as my mom and I are, we are incredibly different in so many ways, too. Yes, we see eye to eye on many things, but then there’s a whole slew of things in which we couldn’t be more opposite. In this series, my mom and I will be bringing you content on all sorts of topics, from the light and fun to the heavier stuff, and giving our opinions and thoughts on each. We’ve talked about doing something like this for so long, and I’m really so excited to finally start! Keep on reading to hear a bit more of a backstory on the series (along with a fun infographic) and to get to know my wonderful mom, Marcee.

Take it away, mom!

Welcome to our LMLD Series!

As long as I can remember, Julie and I wanted to have a business that we could share. We had so many different ideas, from invitations and stationery to magazine publishing and opening a boutique. We even came up with a company name and set up a website – we did a lot of dreaming!

As of now we live near each other on a part-time basis, with hopes to be full-time sometime soon. We needed to find a business that didn’t require us to be located in one place at all times.

Recently Julie and I were talking about one of her blog posts, and a lightbulb went off! I thought why don’t we do a series together that would show our similar and contrasting opinions on anything lifestyle. As close as we are, which is as close as any mother and daughter can be, we are different in so many ways.

We realized that at this point in time, this is the only way for us to have a business together. Thus, our “Like Mother Like Daughter…or Somewhere in Between” series was born!

Our lives have been anything but typical. We both have lived in many cities in different parts of the country. We have shared, learned, laughed and cried so much throughout all our moves. Whether it is lifestyle, people, relationships, fashion or decorating, we have seen it all!

By writing this series together, it will be a great way for us to work together and stay connected in a very different way than ever before.

We hope you will enjoy reading it as I know we will enjoy writing it!

Now, a little about me…

I am a wife, mother of two, mother-in-law of two, and grandmother of two. I was born in Chicago and lived there until I went to college at University of Miami. I met my husband Chuck at school, and we were married two years after we graduated. After college I was an account executive for two public relations firms, and later the in-house communications director for a real estate development corporation.

Five years later we started our family. We had our son Danny (who is married to our daughter-in-law, Joanna, with two sons, the greatest joys of my life, my grandsons Blake and Jace) and Julie (who is married to our son-in-law, Matthew). After another five years our adventure began. Our quiet simple Florida life took a big exciting turn. We moved to Houston for Chuck’s business opportunity.

Over the years his business required us to move to many different cities. In addition to Houston, we lived in Cleveland, Chicago, New York and Connecticut. We even lived in a few cities more than once.

Moving and living in so many different places can be very challenging at first. However, I can honestly say that after organizing our family’s life, it always turned out just right!

We made so many wonderful friends along the way. We lived in homes we loved in so many special communities. I even had the opportunity to restart a high school newspaper (with Julie), become a PTO president, and co-president of a school board.

Julie and I will have so many things to share with you. From our similar or different points of view, we promise to always keep it interesting.  I look so forward to beginning this next exciting chapter in my life with my new business partner, my daughter!
