Last week I was checking out at Bed, Bath & Beyond and while the lady checking me out was extremely nice, the customer behind me was not. I will admit; I had a lot of items and because I was doing a lot of registry swap outs and whatnot, it did take longer than the normal checkout time at BB&B. Well, let me just tell you. This woman behind me was NOT having it. Rather than politely walking to another line, she decided to confront the situation. In a very nasty voice, ‘Is this going to take THAT much longer?’ The cashier responded ‘It will be a little bit longer, yes.’ Rude woman, ‘UGH.’ To which I responded in my head but outloud, as well ‘Some people are so rude.’ Rude woman, ‘Well, unlike you, I have places to be today.’ Not cool, lady, not cool.
The point to my anecdote is…be nice, just be nice. Not only does it require more energy to be rude, but it’s truly just not necessary. It doesn’t only put others around you in a bad mood, but what you may not realize, is it’s also bringing you down, as well. Things may go wrong in life, people may piss you off, situations may bother you, but handling these moments gracefully and with kindness will make everything that much better.
Yesterday I was ordering at the Starbucks drive-thru, and my order was taking a while, and the woman at the window could not have been nicer. We chatted it up for a few minutes while my sandwich was heating up to pass the time, and she was truly awesome. It was a nice (pun intended) way to start the day.
Moral of my little story: be nice. I promise it’ll not only make those around you happier, but it’ll do the same for you.
Amen! I worked in customer service for many years, so I’ve met so many rude people. When I feel myself getting to that point, I take a deep breath to make sure I’m not rude.
Exactly! Sometimes all you need is a deep breath, and it really helps. XO, Julie
Wow!!!! So sorry that happen to you! I agree people can be so rude and just bring everyone down. I wish some people knew that kindness and being nice will bring them so much more than all that negativity.
100% agree Monica!!!! 🙂 xo, Julie
So true! Such a great way to start your morning with great energy with that lady from Starbucks. Hope you’re having a good one today today too.
Thanks so much, you too! xo, Julie
