I’ve been to my fair share of bachelorette parties, and a decent number of those have taken place in Austin. Most of the Austin ones tend to have a similar itinerary (all fun, but similar), but last weekend I had one in Austin and it was different from others I’ve been to.
Starting with…The Artful Bachelorette!
What is The Artful Bachelorette you ask? Basically, you sketch a nude model. Plain and simple!
When I first saw this on the itinerary, I was pumped, but skeptical. Skeptical because I didn’t think said nude model would actually be nude, and if I’m sketching a nude model, I want him to be NUDE. After further research on the website, I found out the model is, in fact, totally nude. Fun!
Here’s the 411 on this unique Bachelorette Party experience:
The Artful Bachelorette will either come to you or you can go to them. We had them come to us, so the team of 3 came to one of our suites at the South Congress Hotel. Upon entering the room, a shirtless man welcomed us, took our drink orders, gave us our supplies (paper, pencils, etc). A nice woman got us seated, explained what would be taking place, tried to ease us into the situation. And then she introduced the male model. He came out topless with a towel covering his parts. They then invited the bachelorette (Hi Em!) to unveil his parts by pulling off the towel. And BAM. Full on nude man, everything hanging out, right there in front of us in a fairly small space.
At first, we were all giggling like school girls, but as the event went on, we became more comfortable with the scenario. The girl basically gives different exercises (sketch with your non dominant hand, sketch without looking, so forth and so on) all while the model is changing positions every so often.
The event lasts an hour, you get to keep your sketches, and it’s a fun way to start the evening. We, of course, all drank throughout the hour, so we were very ready to go out on the town afterwards.
The Artful Bachelorette is only in 4 cities right now – LA, Austin, Dallas, New York – but hopefully they’ll come to more soon. However, if you’re heading to a bachelorette party in one of the aforementioned cities, I highly recommend this activity. It’s different, it’s fun, and bottom line, why wouldn’t you want to draw a hot nude man?!
Images c/o The Artful Bachelorette. The ones we had from our weekend weren’t necessarily appropriate to post on FPTP (drinks were flowing, and pictures were sub par).
I did something similar for a bachelorette party and it ended up being so fun! And now I have a weird painting I don’t know what to do with đ
