Thoughts From My Desk: Life is What You Make It

Last night I had dinner with a couple girlfriends, and when I got home Matthew and I were both craving something sweet. So, we went to the ice cream shop down the street from our loft (I got birthday cake flavor with Sno-Caps..so good..don’t tell my trainer), and then we walked around our ‘town’ hand in hand eating our ice cream.

My dream is to one day live in a town like the one in the movie Baby Boom or similar to one in the TV show Hart of Dixie. For some reason, my whole life, I’ve always wanted that and thinking about towns like that make me so happy. I want to wake up, go to the one and only coffee shop in a town with a small population, where everyone knows each other, then go onto the general store, pick up my groceries, have an account at the store like in the movie Housesitter…you get me.

Living in Houston, the 4th largest city in the country (correct me if I’m wrong…I could google it, but I’m far too lazy), it is no small town we live in. And while Houston might not be the city I always dreamt of living in, I realize everything is what you make it. Last night Matthew and I made a small town of our own. Even with the traffic that makes me want to pull my hair out and all the crazy hustle and bustle in this large city, we managed last night to simply make it what we wanted to make it…a small town.

Until I one day live in that town of 567 people in Vermont (I’m referring to the movie Baby Boom again), I’m making my city what I want to make it and I’m loving it along the way.

That is one thing I love about Houston, it is like mini cities all mushed together. Depending on which area you visit, you get a totally different vibe… uptown, downtown, midtown, heights, the museum district you can just pick a mini-city to fit your mood!
