Thoughts From My Desk: Turning 30

Turning 30

Yesterday I turned the big 3-0. #old

Years past I was the biggest birthday person, and I mean, multiple celebrations and an entire month leading up to the day I was like ‘my birthday is coming up, my birthday is coming up.’ How narcissistic of me!

Fast forward some odd years and birthdays were just different for me. I didn’t become ‘Negative Nancy’ or anything, but I just didn’t feel the desire to make a big stink of the big day. I would still enjoy it, of course, but in a much more low key way.

Long story short, yesterday was exactly as I wanted it. The entire day was spent with my family (my little nephew came in from Maryland, and he is simply the very best). We hung out, ate a lot, drank a lot, and I had one too many sweets because #30. It was everything I wanted and more. Tonight I’m getting dinner with my siblings, and then we’re going to a nearby bar to meet up with friends.

Years back I thought 30 sounded so damn old. I mean, 30. Holy crap. My mom had a 1 year old by the time she was 30, and I’m sitting here still figuring my shit out. However, as I got closer and closer to January 14th, 2016, I really started to embrace 30, and really looking forward to my 30s. Here’s the thing guys, what’s the alternative to getting older? Exactly. So why not embrace it, enjoy it, love it.

I’m honestly really excited to be 30 and for this decade, in general. I made plenty of mistakes in my 20s (I mean did you read my book?!), and I’m sure I’ll continue to make plenty more mistakes in my 30s, but I learned a shit ton when I was in my mid 20s. I was talking to an old friend the other day and he said ‘we’re not getting older, we’re getting better.’ And I believe it. Age is truly just a number. It’s ALL about your mindset, your outlook on life, and your attitude. Your thoughts are what you become. If you think you’re old, then yeah, you’re fucking old.

So, here we go, 30. Let’s do this.

First happiest birthday to you my beautiful friend!
I agree! It is crazy, I was like you use to celebrate for a month long and I always imagine my 30th to be such a huge celebration but honestly all I wanted was to be with family.

    Xx
